The China International Mining Group (CIMG) is a not-for-profit membership based expert community working towards enhancing the mining and metals community’s contribution to China's economy and society. The CIMG's many initiatives:
- help mining and metal related enterprises work in and with China
- build an understanding of the benefits of our industry to the wider community
- help enterprises in our industry to become sustainable operators
- assist media to write accurate as well as compelling stories about the mining and metals industry
Our Mission and HistoryIn 2002 a group of concerned international explorers, miners and service related enterprises gathered in Beijing at a forum organized by the Australian and Canadian Embassies. They decided to band together to promote best practice mining and metals practices as well as generate sustainable mining opportunities in China. Together these enterprises, developed the CIMG and are carrying out a campaign to encourage others to join in this important effort. The first formal meeting of the CIMG took place in May of 2003. At this meeting, participants outlined goals for the organization, and decided how the important work of the CIMG would be funded. Twenty industry members stepped forward as sponsors to achieve the following goals:
- To clarify the regulatory framework for mining and metals companies in China, and advocate research into sustainable mining and metals in the development of the regulatory framework
- To educate the broader community about the benefits of mining and metals
- To bring about understanding of the needs of operators in the industry to government
- To promote mining and metals through a positive message about the benefits of our industry
- To serve as a conduit between academia, industry, government and consumers
- To help mining and metal companies meet the needs of china’s economic growth in a sustainable and value added way
- To help sponsoring members generate sustainable business opportunities in and with China
Strategic ObjectiveThe CIMG's strategic objective is to advocate public policy and operational practice for a world-class industry that is safe, profitable, innovative, environmentally and socially responsible, attuned to community needs and expectations. The CIMG aims to promote sustainable investment and best business practice in our industry by addressing issues of common concern to potential mining investors in and with China by providing channels for dialogue with the relevant authorities and industry orgnisations.
